Fall 2010 End(before the grades came in)

There couldn't have been a more dramatic end to the semester. AI and DAA finals back-to-back.

Things that I seem to be doing better:
1. Time Management (start early!)
2. Handling pressure

Report Card

-Nov 22, 2010
1. Identified errors in Java code. But wasn't authoritative enough. Getting better, but needs to be more assertive.

Two lessons from today's MATI meeting

9 Nov, 2010

1. I need to word things better(differentiate between the problem and the symptom of a problem.)
2. A virus is a program that multiplies(present as executable code.) Other malwares (that are not viruses) DO NOT MULTIPLY, but cause problems(security, resources etc.)

IR in the blood

Oct 27th 2010,

I told Rao that I will be shifting gears and moving to the IR side. Rao was cool about it, and his reaction was ranged from no emotion to encouraging. I love IR, it's in my blood. I love AI. Being in Yochan, has removed the intertia I had for both IR and AI. I think I am at the right place. I am really looking forward to researching in IR. This is it.

Spring Semester Beckons :)

The Spring semester is just a few days away. I am preparing myself mentally for the busy schedule I will have to endure during the next 4 months. I will be taking two really challenging classes this semester- Rao's Information retrieval and Gel's Supply Chain Analysis. I am sure the course selection would raise a few eye-brows, but I believe it's a direct reflection of my interests.

Needless to say, Inforamtion Retrieval( focusing on search engines) is one area which excites every computer science student- especially after the astronomic rise of Google and the kind of influence it holds on the industry today. What makes the course even more special is the instructor, Rao.

On the other hand, Supply Chain Analysis and Gel are unknown quantities. I haven't heard anything nice about her, from the seniors . Eventhough many people consider it brash to take the course, I believe it will give me an opportunity to pursue something that has long remained at the back of my head.

I am really looking forward to the Spring semester. I think these two courses reflect my interests and I'm pursing them. I am ready to put in the long hours starting Tuesday. I am really excited for it :)

PS: At times during the semester I might not have the same energy as when I write this.
This article is a "head fake" to motivate me to put in the extra effort during those times, and not give up.
